About Unity Psychological Consulting
Taking the step to seek help can be scary and intimidating. You may wonder if therapy or coaching can give you the practical tools you need to address your concerns, feel better and move forward with greater confidence and ease. You might want guidance and support as you navigate personal, professional or relationship challenges, but have doubts or concerns about finding a therapist and approach that fits your needs.
Whether you are interested in counseling, coaching or professional consulting, I facilitate an empathic, non-judgmental space. At Unity Psychological Consulting in New York City, we will work together to develop tailored tools, techniques and strategies to meet your unique needs and help you reach your goals.
What to Expect
Consultation – It is natural to have questions before you schedule an initial session. Maybe you want to get a better sense of how I work. If you have questions about counseling or coaching at Unity, I invite you to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation. This is a time for us to get to know one another and determine if we will be a good fit. During the consultation, I will ask questions to learn about your experience and goals. It is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions you may have about my practice, how I work or anything else you may be concerned about regarding your care. You can then decide whether you would like to schedule an initial in-person meeting
1st Session – During our first session, I will work with you to gather more detailed information about your presenting concerns or worries. Whether you are interested in psychotherapy or career coaching, completing a history can help me get a sense of how you are feeling, what your goals are and what sort of tools, techniques and strategies may be most helpful for you. We will also take time to complete intake forms in this first session, giving you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about our work together.
Ongoing Sessions – As our work progresses, we can develop and refine goals as needed. My own goal is to help you reach the point where you no longer need the guidance or support of a counselor or coach, but I recognize that meaningful change often takes time and effort. As your needs and goals change, and as you develop new skills and greater awareness, we will adapt our approach to help you continue healing and growing.
Payments & Insurance
Everyone deserves to have a safe space where they can feel secure sharing their experience and asking for help. Unity Psychological Consulting is an out-of-network provider, and I am not on any insurance panels. I encourage you to review your out-of-network mental health benefits to determine if you can get reimbursed for therapy sessions. I can provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
FAQs
What if I want to ask questions but I am not ready to schedule an appointment yet?
I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation where you can ask questions and decide if we will be a good fit.
How long does it take to get in and see someone?
There are a variety of factors that can impact how quickly we are able to meet, but I can usually schedule an initial consultation session the same week you contact me.
Do you see clients at night or on the weekends?
I offer evening hours in addition to my standard weekday availability. Or, if you prefer, we can meet in the mornings before you go to work. I am also available to conduct professional training classes and workshops during the week or on the weekend.
How long are the sessions and/or workshops?
Sessions last 50 minutes, giving us time to discuss challenges and work toward healing at a comfortable and sustainable pace. In some cases, you may wish to participate in a longer session, training class or workshop.
What if I miss an appointment?
I understand that emergencies happen, and an illness, accident or other unavoidable circumstance may prevent you from keeping a scheduled appointment. That said, barring an emergency, I need 24-hours’ notice if you have to miss an appointment or I will charge you for the missed session.
Do you see same sex couples?
I value every client for who they are, and I welcome individuals and couples of all sexual orientations.
Will everything I say in counseling be confidential?
Everything that you say during our sessions is completely confidential. The only time I would need to break confidentiality is if you mention elderly abuse or child abuse or tell me that you have an active plan to harm yourself or someone else.
Will I have to go on medication or will therapy interfere with my medical treatment?
I do not prescribe medication and therapy can often serve as an effective complement to medical treatment. In some cases – if you are struggling with chronic pain or infertility, for example – you may wish to fill out a consent form that would allow me to collaborate directly with your medical caregiver.
